DISCOVER THE NEIGHBOURHOOD BY BICYCLE

Bugaszeg brick gallery

Visiting the three-hectare estate that functions as a brick gallery and farm can be a surprising experience. This is the realm of János Csere where you shouldn’t be surprised if you will feel like Alice in Wonderland.

The owner – Jani – built the multi-storey museum and bell tower out of special, rare bricks, and arranged a smaller historical memorial park also. After every bend another building appears and each step leads to new secrets and exciting stories.

In addition to the many special facilities, the owner and his wife also keep horses, sheep, mangalica (Hungarian breed of domestic pig), rabbits and poultry, and in the rich “Garden of Gethsemane” almost all Hungarian plant species have been collected.

Fishpond in Bugaszeg

There is a 25-hectare fishing lake in Bugaszeg on the way to the brick gallery, which can be circled around either by bicycle or on foot. The shore of the fishing lake is covered with reeds and sedges in a wonderful environment, only the fishing piers are embedded in lush vegetation.

Anglers can choose from a number of methods here; they can fish with fine gear, they can opt for open-water bottom fishing or even reed carp fishing. An important aspect in the design of the fishing grounds and piers was that the guests could fish comfortably and not be too close to each other. You can engage in various activities in and around the lake, such as boat rental and night fishing.

The fishing lake in Bugaszeg is an excellent place to spend a few quiet hours and get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Dutra Museum

In Balázs Molnár’s special tractor museum, all small children are amazed – but adults feel like children again. Mr. Molnár has been obsessed with Dutras i.e. Hungarian and multifunctional tractors since the age of 15.

He bought his first DUTRA tractor for his work, and he still works with it today. At first he came across the tractors during his travels, he used to buy them there, but nowadays he buys them through acquaintances. Tractors are usually refurbished, mostly on their own, which may last up to 8-9 months.

He currently works with two tractors, all others belong to his collection. He is not interested in any other tractor, but in all Hungarian technical antiquities. His mission is to show and make the memories of Hungarian technical life attractive to young people as well.

Moreover, some old, medieval Hungarian varieties on an experimental basis: water hemlocks and white augster.

The tradition of viticulture and winemaking in this region dates back 800 years. It is no coincidence that in the 18th century cellar in the Konyári Winery, red wines are matured in small oak barrels and their gravity flow winery was built at the foot of the mountain.

The pier was built in 1897 and was directed by the chief adviser and designer, Gyula Scholcz, who directed the pier to the Gulács hill’s perpendicular line.

Fácános palisade

The Fácános palisade recalls the age when Lake Balaton was more commonly visited for military purpose instead of being on holiday.

This was originally a simple palisade that was destroyed by the Turks. Almost nothing was left of it, only the moats and the foundation walls of the church that once stood in the middle. The area of the demolished palisade was neglected for a long time, and a weedy jungle grew in its place, therefore it was named after pheasants that nest in tall vegetation.

The area was restored in the 1900s, and part of the palisade and towers were rebuilt on the basis of a ground plan from 1569-70, prepared by the Viennese imperial military engineer Giulio Turco. The reconstruction was preceded by an archaeological excavation between 1957 and 1959, when the castle site was accurately identified and the reconstruction was prepared. Today it functions as a park and playground.
